Making your Turkey

In this fun sensory bin your toddler will give turkeys their feathers using rice and bowls. To add to the fun, we need to make a turkey body to add to the sensory bin. Below are the simple instructions to make a simple turkey body. You can make as many turkeys as you want!

How to Make A Turkey body

  1. Cut the brown construction paper or foam sheet into 4 approximate squares. Cut out the body of the turkey.

  2. Glue, eyes, beak and snoods to the head of the turkey.

Setting up a Turkey Sensory Bin

If you are doing this activity indoors, be sure to protect your floors and make cleaning up after you are doing easier by putting something down on your floors. You can use a shower curtain line, picnic blanket, old sheet or a plastic table cloth. I like to tape them down so that they don’t move as my toddlers do.

Once they are done playing you can simple pick up your sheet or plastic table cloth and dump the rice back into the bin. Making cleaning up the mess so much easier!

To make the sensory bin, first, tape the turkey body (or bodies) you made to a bowl (or bowls). Then pour your uncooked dry white rice into a sensory bin. You could use coloured rice but plain rice works well with this activity since the feathers will add the pop of colour and interest.

Next, add your feathers, bowls and scooping tools (see Supplies list).

How to Play Turkey Sensory Bin

Let your kids take the lead on this activity. Let them scoop and pour the rice with the tools into the bowls and then stick the feathers into the rice behind their turkeys to give them their feathers.
