Boring afternoons are made exciting with awesome animal-based bins, like Salty Shark Bay or Yarn Farm. Pretend play bins like Birthday Cake Sensory Play or Bubble Tea Party encourage creativity and imagination. And your kids will have so much fun they won’t even know they’re getting smarter with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities like Sink or Float Soup, Magnetic Letter Hunt or Ice Cream Scoop and Count.

Diversity Fingerprint MLK Craft

Grab the free printable world picture below. Print it out on white card stock or white paper. Invite your little one to colour in the planet earth.

Next, pour out your skin tone coloured paint into a paint pallet and invite your little one to dip their fingers into each colour to create fingerprints all around the world. When they are making their fingerprints make sure to leave some space in between each fingerprint.

Set it aside to dry. If your little one can’t wait, you can speed up the drying process using a hair dryer.

Once the paint is dry, grab a fine point black pen. I found the Sharpie fine point pen worked well. Invite your little one to draw faces on the fingerprints to turn them into all the peoples of the world.

After they create little faces, have them draw arms connected to each fingerprint joining them together with the arm of the fingerprint person on either side of them. It should look like they fingerprint people are holding hands!

How to Use this Activity with MLK Day

This is a fun activity to pair with reading a book about Martin Luther King Jr.. This is also great activity to talk about unity of and love for all people with younger kids. You can also talk about how we all different on the outside but inside we are all pretty much the same.

Age Suitability

This activity is great for kids 3 years and up. My kids are 3.5, 3.5, and 7.5 year old.

Play is at the core of learning during the early years and it can take many forms. One of the most important of these is sensory play because it engages all of a child’s senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing) and has a enoumous positive impact on brain development.

My Sensory Play Kits are a fun and easy way to keep your child engaged while at the same time capitalizing on the benefits of sensory play to nurture their mind!
