Boring afternoons are made exciting with awesome animal-based bins, like Salty Shark Bay or Yarn Farm. Pretend play bins like Birthday Cake Sensory Play or Bubble Tea Party encourage creativity and imagination. And your kids will have so much fun they won’t even know they’re getting smarter with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities like Sink or Float Soup, Magnetic Letter Hunt or Ice Cream Scoop and Count.

Paper Plate Peace Craft for MLK Jr. Day

Grab a sheet green construction paper. Make four small cuts (similar to the first picture) to create two tabs. Fold the tabs up (similar to the second picture). Fold them back and open the construction paper and fold the tabs inwards so that they create two small ‘steps’ on the inside of the construction paper.

Grab your multi-cultural construction paper and trace your child’s hand on two different skin tones. Cut out the two handprints.

Glue one handprint to each step. Before gluing you want to make sure that the tips of the hands are not sticking out of the card once it is folded. So before gluing the handprints, put them in the correct position so that the fingers are touching and so that they are sticking out of the card when folded. To do this you may need to tilt the handprints downwards.

Either use a heart lever punch or scissors to cut out a heart from red construction paper. Glue this to the the middle of the two hands.

Use the lever punch of scissors to cut out hearts from the multi-cultural paper. Use a black marker or fine point pen to write out Martin Luther King Jr.’s most famous phrase: “I have a dream.”

Play is at the core of learning during the early years and it can take many forms. One of the most important of these is sensory play because it engages all of a child’s senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing) and has a enoumous positive impact on brain development.

My Sensory Play Kits are a fun and easy way to keep your child engaged while at the same time capitalizing on the benefits of sensory play to nurture their mind!
