Hands-On Learning

Talk about hands-on, sensory bags are great way to foster learning. They are easy to create and focus on multiple skills. This corn counting sensory bag is perfect for any fall themed preschooler or toddler unit. You can also do this activity with a kindergartner by doing simple addition or subtraction problems inside the corn instead of numbers.

Make quiet time their favourite time!

Play is at the core of learning during the early years and it can take many forms. One of the most important of these is sensory play because it engages all of a child’s senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing) and has a enoumous positive impact on brain development.

My Sensory Play Kits are a fun and easy way to keep your child engaged while at the same time capitalizing on the benefits of sensory play to nurture their mind!

How to Set Up Corn Counting Sensory Bag

Grab your gallon sized ziplock bag. You can remove the label using an alcohol wipe. Draw 4-6 cobs of corn on the front of the bag using black and green sharpies. Write the numbers you want your little one count to inside the cobs of corn.

Next, a hair gel and a small amount of water into the bag. I usually add enough to ensure that all the kernels can be moved with ease. Test this out before sealing completely. Then seal and release all the air. Use packing tape to secure the top of the bag.

Tape the sensory bag to a table using painter’s tape so that it is easier for your preschooler to complete the task.
