How to Set up Valentines Feed the Heart Monster Game

Feed the Heart Monster

OK, lets get a little crafty! I promise it’s nothing crazy. I’m all about fun and easy not only for them, but also for you!

Grab your red construction paper and cut out a large red heart then cut out a smaller heart in the middle. This is will be the heart monster’s mouth. Next, take your paper bag and fold the front part and cut out a similar sized heart shape. Doesn’t have to be perfect. Once you stick your heart on you can fix it later.

Glue or tape your large heart to the paper bag so that the holes align. If you can see the paper bag through the hole, use the scissors to cut off the excess. Finally, add googley eye to your heart monster!

Next, time to make your mini Valentine’s Day letter cards. Cut pink, red, purple construction paper into small rectangles, small enough to fit into your monster’s mouth. Draw a heart on it the top or Valentine’s Day theme sticker to the top. Underneath write the letters you want your little one to practice on each card.

Time to Feed the Heart Monster

Invite your little one to feed the heart monster. There are a few ways you can play this game depending on your little one’s comfort level with letters and phonics.

Feed the Heart Monster

Option 1: Call out a letter for them to search for and have them feed that to the heart monster.

Option 2: Call out a letter sound and have them find the letter that makes that sound. Have them feed that letter to the monster.

Option 3:Call out an object that starts with the letter you want them to find.

Other Modifications

There are lots of other ways you can modify this activity to meet your learning needs:
