Halloween is all about spooky, fun decorations, and what’s more fun than a flying ghost mobile?
This craft is the perfect mix of eerie and adorable, as your homemade ghosts float and spin in the air. Kids will love seeing their creations come to life as the little ghosts seem to fly, suspended from a stick.
Whether you hang it in a window, above the table, or in a doorway, this ghost mobile brings a touch of Halloween spirit to your home in a handmade way that kids and parents can enjoy together.

Why You’ll Love This Craft
You’ll love this flying ghost mobile craft because it’s easy to make, budget-friendly, and full of Halloween fun.
Each ghost has its own personality, and the best part is that your kids can make it their own by adding different faces or shapes. Plus, the materials are simple and likely things you already have around the house. Watching the ghosts “fly” when you hang them up is sure to delight your little ones—and it makes for an impressive decoration to show off!
What You’ll Need
- Coffee filters
- Black construction paper
- Twine
- Black thread
- Needle
- Small foam balls
- Bowl
- Glue
- Paintbrush
- Stick (for hanging)
- Scissors
How to Set Up
- Create the ghost: Fold a coffee filter in half and then half again. Cut the bottom of the coffee filter to make it wavy. Take a small foam ball and cover the the top half with glue. Place the ball in the center of the coffee filter and start to fold and shape the coffee filter around the ball to create body and of the ghost. Set it aside to dry and create your other flying ghosts.

- Add ghost faces: Cut small shapes from black construction paper to create eyes and mouths for the ghosts. Glue these onto the ghost’s head using a paintbrush to apply the glue, giving each ghost a unique expression.

- Assemble the mobile: Once your ghosts are ready, thread a needle with black thread and string each ghost at varying lengths. Do this by sewing through the ghost head including the foam ball and tying a knot on top. Tie the threads onto the stick (you can use any small stick or branch), and make sure the ghosts are spaced out evenly. Attach twine to both ends of the stick for hanging. Use scissors to cut off any extra thread.

- Give your Ghost Personality: Use construction paper to create hats for your ghosts. We made witches hats but you can get creative!

- Hang and watch them fly: Find a good spot in your home to hang your ghost mobile, where the air can move them slightly. As they sway, they’ll look like they’re flying through the air, bringing a touch of Halloween fun to your space!
