Whether you’re crunching through leaves or gathering pumpkins, fall offers endless opportunities to sneak in some literacy practice.

Letter skills, such as letter recognition, sound association, and name identification, are essential building blocks for learning to read and write. By using fun, hands-on activities, you can help your child master these skills in a way that feels more like play than work. And what better way to engage them than by tying these learning moments into the rich colors and textures of fall?

During the fall, kids are naturally drawn to the world around them—brightly colored leaves, pumpkins, acorns, and more. This sensory connection is perfect for bringing letters to life! Whether you’re crafting with leaves, painting pumpkins, or setting up sticky walls, these activities offer endless possibilities to help your child recognize letters, connect them to sounds, and even practice spelling their name. Plus, the fall season provides fresh materials and a cozy, creative atmosphere to keep your child excited about learning.

Curious Crafting Season 1 is also now airing in Australia on ABC! Watch it here!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
