INSIDE: Pumpkin Patch Letter Hunt Sensory Bag is a fun and easy fine motor letter recognition for toddlers and preschoolers for Fall. Let your little one create a mini pumpkin patch in bag to hunt for pumpkin and practice their letter recognition and letter sounds!
Talk about hands-on, sensory bags are great way to foster learning. They are easy to create and focus on multiple skills. This pumpkin patch letter recognition sensory bag is wonderful for any fall or Halloween themed preschooler or toddler unit.
How to Set Up Pumpkin Patch Letter Hunt Sensory Bag
On a piece of printer paper, draw 8-10 mini pumpkins using an orange dot marker, a brown markers and black pen. Write the letters you want your little one to practice inside the pumpkins. Write all the letters in either all uppercase or all lower case or a mix.
Grab your gallon sized ziplock bag. You can remove the label using an alcohol wipe.
Fill the bag with a couple of squirts of shaving cream. Add about a 1/3 cup of water and a drop of two of green food colouring. Seal the bag and remove all the air.
Mix the shaving cream and water together in the bag until the entire bag is filled with green foam. This will be your pumpkin patch. Ensure all the air is removed and use packing tape to secure the top of the bag.
Grab the sheet of paper with the letters that your little one has to find and slide it under the sensory bag. Tape the sensory bag on top of the paper to a table or floor using painter’s tape so that it is easier for your preschooler to complete the task.
Final Step of the Set Up
Grab another sheet of paper and write out the letters that you used on the pumpkins. Your little one will use this check list to mark off the letters that they find in the pumpkin patch sensory bag. If you wrote all uppercase, use all lowercase on the check list (or visa versa). Once they find a pumpkin with a letter have them find it on sheet then check it off the list.
How to Play with Pumpkin Patch Letter Sensory Bag
First, I had my preschoolers identify the letters and the sounds it made on the check list sheet and then had them tried to find the letters in the sensory bag. Once they found a letter they then used a marker to check it off the list.

The Best Sensory Play Kits for Kids
Play is at the core of learning during the early years and it can take many forms. One of the most important of these is sensory play because it engages all of a child’s senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing) and has a enoumous positive impact on brain development.
Our Sensory Play Kits are some fun and easy ways to keep your child engaged while at the same time using sensory play to nurture their mind!
