Here is a fun Valentine’s Day math activity for preschoolers and kindergartners. It is also a great way to help your little one learn how to draw a heart!

Here’s how to get started!

On a white sheet of kraft paper draw eight to 10 half hearts. It will look sort of strange to your little one but just let them know they will be completely the heart once you are done!

Next, in each half heart you drew, draw a different number of dots. Your child will add up these dots so draw dots according their current math level.

Your little one will complete the hearts as well as draw the same number of dots on their side of the heart in order to make it symmetrical!

Heart Math

Now, show your little one how to complete the heart shape and make dots just like how you did. It is important especially for preschoolers for you to show them how to finish the heart. You can either guide their hand as they draw it or create dots for the first few.

Next, have your child count the total number of dots and write the number in the middle of the heart.

This activity has a ton of learning outcomes! There is symmetry which is an early math skill, counting, numeracy and writing!
