Packing up for a day at the beach with kids and want to sneak in something super fun that also keeps them busy for more than five seconds? This Beach Slime activity is for you. It’s hands-on, sensory, and the kind of DIY that’ll have everyone oohing and ahhing… even the grown-ups.
The best part? You’re using actual beach sand to make the slime, so there’s no extra mess to clean up and no need to bring a full craft kit from home. Just stash a few basics in your beach bag and let the shoreline do the rest.
Why You’ll Love This Beach Slime Recipe
- It’s super simple: Just a few ingredients and no measuring cups required.
- Built-in sensory play: Slime plus gritty beach sand equals the ultimate tactile experience.
- Great for all ages: Toddlers to tweens will love squishing, stretching, and sculpting it.
- Perfect for downtime at the beach: When the waves feel too cold or kids need a break from running, this is the calm creativity moment you’re looking for.

Materials You’ll Need
- A small container or bowl (reusable takeout containers work great!)
- Clear glue (about a full bottle or 4-6 oz per batch)
- Slime activator (you can use saline solution + baking soda, or bring a pre-made activator like Elmer’s Magical Liquid)
- A stick or plastic spoon to stir or you can just use your finger
- A handful of clean, dry beach sand
Optional:
- Small seashells
- Blue or turquoise food coloring
How to Make Beach Slime (Right on the Sand!)
- Scoop and prep your sand.
Find a patch of clean, dry sand. Create a small bowl in the sand to help contain the ingredients! Try to avoid wet sand—it makes the slime too soupy. - Add glue.
Pour in your clear glue in the sand bowl. I used a full bottle or 6 oz for each kid. - Add activator.
Slowly add a little activator at a time (a couple teaspoons to start), stirring with your finger until the slime starts pulling away from the sand not already mixed in. If it still pretty sloppy add more activator. Remember you can also add more activator but you can take it out so add it slowly, mix well and if still sloppy add more activator. Keep adding a little at a time until it forms a stretchy blob.

- Mix.
The one thing that prevents people from making great slime is they give up to soon. If your slime is sticky keep mixing!! Some slimes take a bit longer to form and require a longer mixing slime. Since you are mixing the in a sand bowl, sand will be added automatically and it will create the perfect beachy texture—gritty, stretchy, and a little bit crunchy. - Customize it (optional).
Want a beachy-blue vibe? Add a tiny drop of food coloring before mixing in the sand. You can also toss in some small seashells or even tiny plastic ocean animals for extra sensory fun.

Tips for Success
- Don’t use wet sand. It’ll throw off the texture. Stick to the dry stuff near your towel.
- Keep slime away from mouths and eyes, beach towels and bags. Sand + glue = not edible.
- Use the airtight container. Save any leftovers for more play at home!
Clean-Up is a Breeze
The great thing about beach slime is you’re already surrounded by water and sand. Once you’re done playing, scrape excess sand off hands and rinse with ocean water or a water bottle. Toss used slime in a bag and wipe out your container before heading home. That’s it!

Beach Slime is the perfect low-key, high-fun beach day activity. It adds a little science, a little sensory, and a whole lot of “can we do this again?” moments to your summer.
So next time you’re heading to the shore, skip packing a dozen toys and just bring your glue. This is one activity that’s sure to make waves.
