Jellyfish Counting: A Splashing Window Foam Activity for Kids!

Crafting the Jellyfish Head

  1. Create the Jellyfish Heads: Cut out 5 to 10 foam shapes in the form of jellyfish heads. Ensure each head is large enough to fit a number and googly eyes. Using a glue gun, attach googly eyes to each jellyfish head, bringing these adorable sea creatures to life!
  2. Add the Numbers: With a marker or pen, write different numbers on each jellyfish head. You can choose numbers suitable for your child’s counting level or introduce new numbers for a fun challenge!
  3. Craft the Tentacles: Cut out long tentacles from foam sheets in various colors. You can make enough tentacles for each jellyfish head to have a unique set of tentacles for counting.

Splashy Counting Fun

Now, let’s bring the underwater adventure to life!

  1. Spray the Window: Invite your child to spray the window or glass surface with water, creating a perfect “ocean” for the jellyfish to swim!
  2. Stick the Jellyfish Heads: Let your little one stick the jellyfish heads onto the wet window surface.
  3. Count and Stick Tentacles: With the jellyfish heads in place, it’s time for the counting fun! Ask your child to count the dots on each jellyfish head and then stick on the corresponding number of tentacles.

Educational Benefits

The Jellyfish Counting Window Foam Activity offers a range of educational benefits for your child:

  1. Counting Skills: Through hands-on counting practice, your child will reinforce their numerical understanding and gain confidence in counting.
  2. Fine Motor Skills: Using the spray bottle the water as well as picking up and sticking the foam tentacles hones fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  3. Creativity and Imagination: Creating an underwater scene with colorful jellyfish sparks imagination and encourages creative play.

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
