If you have kids who are fans of Star Wars, you know that lightsabers are a must-have accessory for any aspiring Jedi. But buying a toy lightsaber can be expensive, and it may not be the most practical choice for playtime. That’s why we’re here to show you how to make a fun and easy cardboard tube lightsaber with your kids!
Make your very own lightsaber using materials that you probably already have at home. With just a few cardboard tubes, some paint, and a little bit of creativity, you can create a toy that will provide hours of entertainment for your kids.
Not only is this project a fun way to get creative and bond with your kids, but it also provides a great opportunity to talk to them about the different characters and themes in the Star Wars universe. So grab your cardboard tubes and get ready to make a lightsaber that’s out of this world!

Instructions on How to Make A Cardboard Tube Lightsaber
- Start by taping your cardboard tubes together using brown paper tape.
- Draw a line about 8 inches down. Start painting up to the line using the light gray color. Paint the rest of the cardboard tube green. Let the paint dry completely.
- Cut out a rectangular strip of black construction paper, about 2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around the tube between the gray and green paint.
- Use the black marker to draw details on the handle of both lightsabers. You can add buttons, switches, or any other features you like.
- Your cardboard tube lightsabers are now complete! You can play with them as they are, or add additional decorations such as stickers or glitter to make them more unique.
Note: You can also use different colors of paint or construction paper to create lightsabers for different characters, such as blue for Luke Skywalker or red for Darth Vader. Get creative and have fun!

TV Show: Curious Crafting
I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.
Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.
In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.
Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
