Spring has sprung, and what better way to welcome its vibrant colors and joyful vibes than by crafting a beautiful Paper Easter Wreath? This delightful project is not just about creating a festive decoration for your home; it’s also a fantastic way to engage little hands in the art of making and decorating. With simple materials like pastel cardstock and markers, this craft transforms into a playful exploration of colors and shapes, culminating in a charming wreath that celebrates the spirit of Easter.

Gathering around the table with pastel papers and scissors in hand, we embarked on this creative journey, ready to cut, glue, and decorate. This activity not only promised a lovely addition to our springtime decor but also offered a wonderful opportunity for family bonding and creative expression. As we navigated through the steps, each choice of color and placement of an egg became a testament to individual creativity and the joy of crafting together.

Materials Needed:

  • Pastel cardstock (pink, yellow, blue, and green)
  • Plate for tracing
  • White cardstock
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pink ribbon
  • Single hole punch

Step by Step Instructions:

  1. Create the Wreath Base: Trace a large plate onto white cardstock to make a circle. Inside this circle, trace a smaller circle to create a ring about 2 inches wide. Carefully cut out the ring.
  1. Prepare the Easter Eggs: From the pastel cardstock, cut out several medium-sized Easter egg shapes. You’ll need enough eggs to cover the entire wreath ring.
  1. Decorate the Eggs: Use markers to add colorful dots or any designs you like to the Easter eggs, giving them a festive look.
  1. Craft the Bunny: Cut out an oval shape for the bunny’s body and two ears from white cardstock. Cut a small triangle for the nose from pink paper. Glue the ears to the top of the oval shape. Add the pink nose in the center, then use markers to draw the bunny’s face – eyes, whiskers, and mouth.
  1. Assemble the Wreath: Glue the decorated Easter eggs around the wreath ring, slightly overlapping them for a full look. Then, glue the bunny to the bottom middle of the wreath.
  2. Add the Hanging Ribbon: Punch a hole at the top of the wreath. Cut a length of pink ribbon, thread it through the hole, and tie a bow. This ribbon will be used to hang your wreath.
  1. Extra Touch: Tie a small bow from the ribbon and glue it to the bunny for an adorable detail.

How They Played:

As we crafted our wreath, the kids took turns deciding where each egg should go, ensuring a balanced mix of colors around the ring. They especially enjoyed designing the bunny, from drawing its facial features to choosing the perfect spot for it on the wreath. Once our creation was complete, they played by hanging the wreath in different spots around the house, finally settling on the perfect place where it could welcome everyone who visited.

Skills Learned:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Cutting and gluing improve hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
  • Creativity and Imagination: Decorating the eggs and designing the bunny fosters imaginative thinking and artistic expression.
  • Color Recognition and Matching: Choosing and matching pastel colors enhance visual perception and color recognition skills.
  • Following Instructions: The step-by-step nature of the craft helps children practice listening and following directions to achieve a desired outcome.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
