How to Make a Paper Strip Cat in the Hat Craft
Step 1: Make the Cat’s Face
Cut several long strips from black construction paper for the Cat’s head. Then, cut a slightly shorter strip from white paper. Glue the black strips down first on the blue construction paper base to create a circle to create the cat’s black fur. Then glue the white strips down over top to complete the face the cat’s face.

Step 2: Make the Hat
Cut one long strip of white construction paper and two half and long. Then cut three strips from red construction paper the same length as the shorter white strips. The red strips will form the famous bold stripes, while the white strips will provide contrast.

Arrange them in alternating red and white rows, gluing them one at a time on top of your cat’s face to create the hat.
Step 3: Make the Bowtie
Cut out two short red strips for the bowtie and glue them in a crisscross pattern below the cat’s head. Optional: Cut and add a small red rectangle in the center to complete the bowtie shape.

Step 4: Add Facial Features
Use a black marker to draw the cat’s nose, mouth, and whiskers. Cut two small white circles for the eyes and draw pupils inside using a marker.

Crafting Tips
- If your child is just starting to use scissors, pre-cut the strips and let them do the gluing.
- Want to make it even easier? Use torn paper strips instead of perfectly cut ones!
