Crafting the Snail Sticky Board

  1. Form the Snail shell:
Start by cutting out a snail shell from the cardboard. Trace a large circle on the cardboard and cut it out with boxcutters.
  2. Add the Sticky Layer:
Cover the circle with a piece of contact paper, ensuring it sticks smoothly over the back of the cardboard. The sticky layer will allow your little ones to decorate their snail shell with an assortment of colorful items. The sticky side should be facing up.
  3. Draw the Snail Body:
Using markers, draw the details of the snail’s body beside the circle with the contact paper. Let your child’s imagination take charge as they design the snail’s face, eyes, and patterns. You can add googley eye for added element of fun!
  4. Decorate the Snail Shell:
Use a black marker to draw a spiral on the shell and they can decorate the spiralor you can leave it blank and let your child decorate it as they wish. Now comes the fun part! Provide your little artists with an array of decorative items like small Pom Poms, pony beads, construction paper, and gem stones. Encourage them to embellish the snail’s shell with a mosaic of colors and textures, adding a touch of whimsy to their creation.

Learning through Play

The Snail Sticky Board Craft is not only an enjoyable art project but also an opportunity for learning and development:

  1. Fine Motor Skills: Picking up and placing the decorative items refines fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  2. Creativity and Imagination: Designing the snail’s body and decorating the shell encourage imaginative play and artistic expression.
  3. Sensory Play: The sticky surface and variety of textures offer a sensory-rich experience that captivates young minds.
  4. Color Recognition: Sorting and choosing decorative items in different colors reinforces color recognition skills.
  5. Pattern Recognition: Making patterns along the snail’s shell using the decorative items.

The Snail Sticky Board Craft is a delightful and engaging activity that opens the door to a world of creativity and sensory play. As your little artists draw the snail’s body and decorate the shell with a medley of colors, their imaginations will flourish with each tiny detail they add. So, gather your materials and let your child’s creativity shine as they craft their charming snail sticky board. TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
