Easy Instruction for Salt Dough Recipe
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 200°F.
Step 2: In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt until well combined.
Step 3: Slowly add in the warm water, stirring continuously until the mixture forms a smooth dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, and if it’s too wet, add a little more flour.
Step 4: Knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 5: Roll out the dough to the desired thickness, using a rolling pin or your hands. For ornaments, you’ll want the dough to be about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 6: Use cookie cutters or other shapes to cut out your desired shapes from the dough. You can also use a knife to cut out free-form shapes.
Step 7: If you want to make ornaments or other hanging decorations, use a straw to poke a small hole in the top of each shape.
Step 8: Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for 2-3 hours, or until the dough is completely dry and hard.
Step 9: Once the shapes are cool, you can paint them with acrylic paint or decorate them with markers or glitter glue.
Painting and Decorating Salt Dough
Painting salt dough is a fun and easy way to add color and personality to your creations. Once your salt dough shapes are fully dry and hard, you can paint them with acrylic paint, which is easy to find at any craft store. Make sure your paint is completely dry before adding a second coat or any additional decorations. You can use brushes of various sizes and types to create different textures and effects. If you want to add a glossy finish, you can use a clear acrylic spray to seal the paint and protect the surface. The possibilities for painting salt dough are endless, so feel free to experiment and let your creativity shine!

TV Show: Curious Crafting
I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.
Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.
In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.
Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
