Want to play with playdough with your baby or toddler, but they still put things into their mouths? Check out this taste safe playdough recipe that’s perfect for babies and toddlers.

How to Make Taste-Safe Playdough

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread out 1 cup of flour on it. Place it in the oven at 350 degrees for 5-7mins.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour, salt and cream of tartar. Mix to combine.
  3. In a separate container, combine the 1/2 cup of boiling water, food colouring and oil.
  4. Add the boiling water mixture to the flour mixture and mix. Be careful the mixture will be very hot!
  5. Add the 1/2 cup of boiling water in small increments until you have reached the desired consistency. Note: You may not need to add all of the water. If you are using a stand mixer, add the water as the mixer is turning.
  6. If kneading by hand, let the mixture cool before you pick it up, protect your counters and hands from staining by laying a sheet of wax paper down and wearing gloves. Knead, knead, knead. Knead it until all its smooth and soft! If using a stand mixer let it continue to mix on medium-high until it starts to form a dough ball.

How to Store Your Taste-Safe Playdough

Store your playdough in an airtight container such as a ziplock bag or any airtight storage container with a lid. Storing it in this way allows it to last for up to 6 months!

How do you fix sticky playdough?

If you find your playdough is too sticky, add a very small amount of flour to your hands as you knead it. Continue adding very small amounts at a time while kneading until you reach the desired consistency. You don’t want to add too much flour otherwise it may get too dry.

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to finally share my new crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched July 1 at on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
