If you’re looking for a fun and educational craft to do with the kids, why not try making a Cloud Raindrop Name Craft? It’s a super cute project where kids can create a little raincloud with raindrops that spell out their names. Not only is it adorable to hang up once you’re done, but it’s also a fantastic way for little ones to get some practice recognizing and arranging the letters in their names.

This craft is really simple and uses materials you probably already have at home, like construction paper, yarn, and some markers. Kids love the hands-on aspect of cutting out their raindrops and decorating their cloud. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to strengthen fine motor skills with some scissor practice. As they work on their craft, they’ll also be working on letter recognition without even realizing they’re learning—because they’re just having fun!

To get started, you’ll create a cloud from paper and then cut out raindrops from blue paper. Each raindrop will have a letter from their name. You can string these together with yarn or arrange them to fall from the cloud, creating a charming display. It’s a beautiful way to personalize their room or a play area, and every time they see their little raincloud, they’ll feel a burst of pride in what they’ve created. Plus, it’s a lovely way to bring a bit of the rainy day magic indoors, no matter the weather outside!

Cloud Raindrop Name Craft: A Fun Way to Learn Your Name!

Material List

  • Blue construction paper
  • White construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Blue yarn
  • Black marker
  • Tape
  • Glue

Directions

  1. Make Your Cloud and Raindrops:
  • Start by tracing a fluffy cloud shape onto your white construction paper using the black marker.
  • Next, count how many letters are in your name—that’s how many raindrops you’ll need! Trace raindrop shapes onto your blue construction paper using the black marker.
  • Depending on the age of your child invite them to cut out the cloud and raindrops.
  1. Write Your Name:
  • Write your child’s name on the cloud and the letters on each raindrop. Older kids can try writing themselves! You can use dotted lines to make it easier.
  • Place each letter of your name on a separate raindrop.
  1. Attach the Yarn:
  • Cut pieces of yarn for each raindrop, making sure they’re all about the same length.
  • Tape one end of each yarn piece to the back of your cloud so they hang down like rain falling.
  1. Assemble the Craft:
  • Glue your cloud onto another sheet of blue construction paper for a nice sky background.
  • Tape each raindrop to the dangling end of a yarn strand, making sure they’re in the correct order to spell out your name.

Tips for Success

  • For younger kids, it’s great to have the letters pre-written so they can focus on matching and arranging.
  • Older kids can challenge themselves by writing the letters and arranging the raindrops to form their names.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.
