The fall season paints the world in a golden hue, with pumpkins being the undisputed stars of the show! While pumpkin pies and lattes might be the talk of the town for grown-ups, we’ve got a pumpkin trick up our sleeves for the kiddos. Let’s bring the timeless rhyme “Five Little Pumpkins” off the pages and into the realm of tactile fun. Introducing the DIY Five Little Pumpkin Blow-Up Craft – where pumpkins are more than just decorations; they’re delightful little characters ready to rise and shine with just a puff of air!

Crafty Tips

  • Sing Along: As you blow and the glove inflates, sing the “Five Little Pumpkins” rhyme. Each puff can represent a verse, making it an interactive story session.
  • Decoration Delight: Allow your preschooler to decorate the plastic cup with additional stickers or drawings, making it their personalized pumpkin patch.
  • Safety Spotlight: Always supervise the little ones while playing to ensure they use the straw safely.

Skills Blossoming in This Craft

  • Breath Control: The act of blowing helps kids practice breath control and lung strength.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Placing stickers or sticking paper pumpkins refines those tiny hand movements.

  • Scissors
  • Plastic glove
  • Pumpkin stickers OR orange and green construction paper
  • If using construction paper: double-sided tape
  • Bendy Straw
  • Tape

Crafting DIY Five Little Pumpkin Blow-Up

  1. Pumpkin Prepping: If you have pumpkin stickers, simply stick five of them on each finger of the plastic glove. No stickers? No worries, you can craft them using construction paper. Cut out five small pumpkin shapes from the orange paper and add tiny stems from the green. Stick one to each finger using double-sided tape.
  1. Airy Adventures: Cut a small slit on the side of the plastic cup with scissors, large enough to slide the end of a straw through and fit snuggly. This is where the straw will go in.
  1. Glove Magic: Attach the glove over the opening of the plastic cup using tape to secure it and to prevent air from escaping. The cup should be airtight.
  2. Let the Show Begin: Gently stuff the glove with the pumpkins into the cup. Then blowing into the straw, and watch as the glove inflates, making it seem like the pumpkins are rising!

Troubleshooting the DIY Five Little Pumpkin Blow-Up Craft

Make sure that there are no holes in glove or ways for airs to escape under the tape or the hole where the straw is. Don’t blow too hard, depending on how strong your glove it blowing too hard can pop up.

Glove Doesn’t Inflate Properly:

  • Issue: You blow through the straw, but the glove remains limp.
  • Solution: Ensure that the glove is securely and airtightly taped to the cup. Any gaps or loose areas might be allowing the air to escape.

Pumpkin Stickers Sticking to the Gloves :

  • Issue: You blow through the straw, but the stickers are preventing the glove from inflating.
  • Solution: Make sure no part of the back of the stickers is exposed. Place paper over any exposed sticky backing of the sticker so that it doesnt stick to the glove.

So, this fall, let’s give those pumpkins a stage, a song, and a spotlight. The DIY Five Little Pumpkin Blow-Up Craft is not just about crafting; it’s about merging stories, songs, and hands-on fun. As the pumpkins rise, so will the giggles and memories, making this a fall favorite for years to come!
