  • Googly eyes (medium-sized)

Leaf Fox Craft Instructions:

  • Venture outdoors with your child to find a fallen maple leaf that’s in good condition and has a distinctive shape. The leaf will serve as the body of your charming leaf fox.

2. Leaf Cleaning:

  • Gently clean the leaf with a damp paper towel or cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Make sure the leaf is dry before proceeding.

3. Base Painting:

  • Place the maple leaf on a flat surface, with the stem facing upward. Using the small paintbrush, coat the entire bottom portion of the leaf with white acrylic paint. See below for reference. Use a pencil to gently draw a line indicating where your child should paint. This will create the fox’s mouth. Allow the paint to dry completely.

4. Adding the Nose:

  • Once dry, use the brown or black paint to paint the nose at the very top of the maple leaf Let it dry.

5. Googly Eyes Magic:

  • Apply a small dot of craft glue or use adhesive dots to attach the googly eyes to the leaf. Place them near the stem of the leaf.

6. Finishing Touches:

  • Let your imagination run wild as you add finishing touches. Use the black marker or pen to draw tiny whiskers on either side of the fox’s mouth.

7. Displaying Your Craft:

  • Find a cozy spot to display your adorable maple leaf fox. You can place it on a windowsill, mantel, or use it as a unique table centerpiece for your fall gatherings.

Tips for a Tail-Wagging Success:

  • Leaf Variations: Experiment with different sizes and shapes of maple leaves to create a whole family of leaf foxes.
  • Acrylic Paint: Acrylic paint adheres well to leaves and dries quickly, making it perfect for this craft.
  • Googly Eyes Placement: Position the googly eyes slightly overlapping the white paint to give the impression of a furry face.
  • Personalize: Encourage your child to give their fox unique characteristics by adding patterns or designs to the white coat.
  • Nature-Inspired Learning: Take this opportunity to teach your child about foxes and their habits, adding an educational element to the crafting experience.

Creating a maple leaf fox is a wonderful way to celebrate the magic of fall while bonding with your child through crafting. This delightful project combines the beauty of nature and the joy of creativity, resulting in a whimsical keepsake that captures the essence of the season. Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
