This delightful craft will spark your child’s creativity as they transform a simple pool noodle into a colorful caterpillar friend. Using just a few materials like cut pool noodles, googly eyes, and pipe cleaners, your little ones can create their own unique caterpillar masterpiece. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the step-by-step process, providing inspiration and tips along the way. So, let’s dive into the colorful world of caterpillars and watch imaginations take flight!
- Cut pool noodles
- Googly eyes
- Pipe cleaners
- Craft glue
Prepare the Caterpillar Body:
Take a cut six sections of the pool noodle to serve as the body of your caterpillar. We decided to make ours resemble the Very Hungry Caterpillar but you can use any colour you have available.
Attach the pool noodles together using pipe cleaners. Cut small sections of pipe cleaner and poke one end in one side of the pool noodle donuts and then poke the other side in another pool noodle donut. Continue until you have a six section long caterpillar body. You should be able to move each section without them coming apart.
Cut pipe cleaners in half and bend the ends for feet. Poke two legs into the bottom of each pool noodle section of the caterpillar.
Cut another pipe cleaners in half and poke each half into the head of the caterpillar for the antennae.
Using craft glue, attach googly eyes near one end of the caterpillar’s head. Finally, use a black sharpie to draw on a smile!

TV Show: Curious Crafting
I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.
Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.
In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.
Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.
This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
