There’s something about penguins that kids can’t get enough of, and this Puffy Paint Penguin Craft brings all the fun of these adorable creatures into a creative project. The puffy paint adds a cool 3D texture that kids love, and the googly eyes and bright orange feet make the penguin extra cute. My kids were completely captivated by mixing the paint and watching their penguin come to life on the page.

What’s great about this craft is that it’s as hands-on as it gets. Kids can mix, paint, cut, and assemble their penguin, adding their own snowy touch with puffy paint snowflakes. It’s messy in the best way and an activity that’s bound to keep everyone smiling.

Why You’ll Love This Penguin Craft

This craft is the perfect blend of creativity and sensory play. The puffy paint is soft and squishy, giving kids a unique painting experience, while the cutting and gluing steps help with fine motor skills. Plus, the end result is a one-of-a-kind penguin scene that makes a great keepsake or display piece.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Blue cardstock
  • Black and orange construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • School glue
  • Shaving cream
  • Bowl
  • Q-tip
  • Paintbrush

How to Make the Puffy Paint Penguin Craft

  1. Prepare the Penguin Body

Cut out a penguin-shaped body from black construction paper and glue it to the blue cardstock.

  1. Mix the Puffy Paint

In a bowl, mix 1 cup of shaving cream with 1/4 cup of school glue. Stir gently until it’s well combined but still fluffy.

  1. Paint the Penguin’s Tummy

Use a paintbrush to apply the puffy paint to the center of the penguin’s body, leaving a black edge around it. For younger kids, trace the area to be painted with a white crayon to guide them.

  1. Add the Details

Cut out a beak and webbed feet from orange construction paper. Place them into the puffy paint while it’s still wet. Add googly eyes just above the beak to complete the penguin’s face.

  1. Make Snowflakes

Dip a Q-tip into the puffy paint and print dots around the penguin on the blue cardstock to create snowflakes.

This Puffy Paint Penguin Craft is an easy, fun way to bring some winter creativity into your day. From mixing the puffy paint to decorating their penguin with snowflakes, kids will love every step of the process. Plus, the finished penguin makes a perfect addition to your winter art collection!

Curious Crafting Season 1 is also now airing in Australia on ABC! Watch it here!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
