How to Set Up Campfire Pretend Play for Kids
This was such a fun activity and I wish I could take credit for it. But all credit for this activity goes to my imaginative kids! They were out in the backyard playing and started to collect sticks. One of them had the idea to make a campfire. So they started collecting sticks to make the biggest campfire ever!

Our backyard is surrounded by trees so finding tons of sticks and twigs to make a campfire was not difficult! Once they had their pile, they started to set it up to look like a campfire. Then in walks mommy and the requests start to fly: Mom can we have some rocks?; Mom, can we have some marshmallows?
I saw what they had started and where they wanted to take it and I was all on aboard.

So I headed inside to grab my stash of supplies of rocks and other ideas I thought would enhance their pretend play. I found a bag of white packing peanuts I had saved years earlier. They would make perfect marshmallows!

I brought everything out and they started to make their campfire better. They surrounded it with rocks. Then they found sticks that would make got marshmallow roasting sticks and I slid a few of the white packing peanuts for them to roast.

I also cut a few pieces of cardboard up in the shape of graham crackers (square) and they used them to make s’mores! I even added some red and yellow and orange feathers to the pretend campfire to make it look more like fire!

Total hit
This was such a hit that after dinner we all went back out as a family to pretend cook real marshmallows on bamboo skewers!
