  • Difficulty to Create: Low.

Materials Needed

  • Conversation heart candies
  • Glue
  • White card stock
  • Pencil

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Lay out your materials on a clean, flat surface. Having a bowl of conversation hearts within easy reach makes the crafting process smoother.
  2. Design Your Layout: Before gluing, plan out your design on the white card stock. You might want to spell out a special message, create a heart shape, or arrange the candies in a border. Play around with the colors and messages to get the look you desire. Pencil it out.
  1. Apply Glue: Once you’re happy with your design, apply glue to the pencil line and start to glue down each conversation heart candy along the line. Be careful not to use too much glue to avoid a messy finish.
  2. Place the Candies: Stick the candies onto the card stock according to your layout. Press them gently to ensure they adhere well but don’t crush the candies.
  1. Let It Dry: Allow your craft to dry completely. This might take a few hours, depending on how much glue you used.
  2. Display or Gift: Your conversation heart craft is now ready to be displayed or gifted! Consider framing your creation or using it as a Valentine’s card for someone special.

Tips for Success

  • If working with younger children, supervise the use of glue to keep the project neat.
  • Experiment with different layouts before committing to glue. Taking a photo of your favorite arrangement can help you remember the placement.
  • For a longer-lasting craft, consider sealing the finished project with a clear acrylic spray (adult supervision required).

Skills Learned

  • Creativity: Selecting colors and arranging the candies encourages artistic expression.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Picking up and placing small candies helps develop precision and dexterity.
  • Reading and Spelling: Reading the messages on the candies and forming words or phrases supports literacy skills.
  • Planning and Execution: Designing a layout and following through with the project teaches planning and attention to detail.

This Conversation Heart Craft for Valentine’s Day is more than just a cute activity; it’s a way to make the holiday extra special and personal. Whether you’re crafting with friends, family, or on your own, this project adds a dash of creativity and a whole lot of love to your Valentine’s celebration. Curious Crafting Season 1 is also now airing in Australia on ABC! Watch it here!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
