Creating your own spider web with an embroidery hoop is an easy, creative way to bring a little Halloween spookiness to your home without any actual creepy-crawlies! This craft combines the fun of weaving with the fun of decorating, allowing kids to make their own webs and even add a playful spider to “scare” anyone who dares to get too close. It’s a perfect project to work on fine motor skills while making a cool decoration that can be hung anywhere you want a little Halloween vibe.
This project is not only fun but also totally customizable. Kids can choose different colors of yarn, and they can decide how big or intricate they want their web to be. With just a few materials, they’ll have their very own spider webs ready to hang, perfect for adding a little spooky charm to your Halloween setup.

Why You’ll Love This Craft
You’ll love these Embroidery Hoop Spider Webs because they’re easy to make, inexpensive, and great for building creativity and patience. The weaving process is both soothing and engaging for kids, and the finished webs look fantastic when hung up. Plus, it’s a mess-free craft that makes for a fun Halloween decoration, giving kids something to proudly display.
What You’ll Need
- Embroidery hoop (any size)
- White or colored yarn
- Toy spider or plastic spider ring
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Set up the embroidery hoop:
Open the embroidery hoop by loosening the screw at the top and separating the two hoops. Place the inner hoop on a flat surface and set the outer hoop aside for now.

2. Tie the yarn to start the web:
Take a long piece of yarn (about twice the diameter of the hoop) and cut and tie one end securely to the hoop. This will be the beginning of your web design. Don’t worry if it looks simple at first; it will take shape as you add more layers.

3. Start weaving the web:
Repeat that same step to create a cross and then repeat it two more time to create two diagonal lines. This will be the base of the web from which you will be weaving around.

Return the outer hoop on the inner hoop and tighten it.

4. Add more web layers:
Take another piece of long yarn, and tie it to one of the line you just created close to the center. Cut off the excess part.

Next, wrap the yarn around the next line. Loop the yarn around each intersecting point, moving in a circular pattern until you reach the outside. This will fill out the web and make it look like a real spider web. Tie off the yarn when you’re done.

Continue wrapping the yarn around the initial lines until you reach the hoops. Then tie the end to the last yarn and cut off the excess yarn.

Go around the hoop and cut off any excess pieces of yarn.

5. Place the spider:
Attach a small plastic spider to the web. You can tie it with a bit of yarn or simply tuck it into the webbing so it appears to be crawling across the web.

6. Hang it up:
Once complete, your spider web is ready to display. Tie a piece of yarn to the top of the hoop to hang it up on a nail, hook, or even from a door handle.

Embroidery Hoop Spider Webs are a fun and easy way to bring a handmade touch to your Halloween decor. Plus, they make for great party decorations or even spooky gifts!
