Enter the super fun and eco-friendly Hanging Toilet Paper Roll Bat Craft! Perfect for kids and adults alike, these bats are ready to swoop down and add a spooktastic touch to your space.

Imagine a little bat colony hanging elegantly from a branch, guarding your candy stash or simply adding flair to your living room. And the best part? You’ve probably got most of the materials lying around your home. So, roll up those sleeves and let’s dive into this crafty adventure.

Materials

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Black paint sticks
  • Black and white construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Hole punch or scissors
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • A sturdy stick (from your garden or a nearby park)
  • Vase
  • Double-sided tape
  • Glue

Steps to Create Your Hanging Bat Craft:

  1. Bat Body Base: Grab your toilet paper roll and color it all over with the black paint stick.
  2. Wings and Ears: From the black construction paper, cut out bat wings and small triangular ears. Use double-sided tape to secure the wings to the back and glue the ears inside the roll’s top.
  3. Face Your Fears: Add the googly eyes with a bit of glue or tape. Then, cut two small triangles from the white paper for fangs, sticking them below the eyes.
  4. Feet First: Fold your black pipe cleaner in half and cut it. Then, take one half and fold and cut it again. Twist a small section around one end to craft the bat’s feet. Do this again for the other foot. Now, create two small holes on either side of the toilet paper roll’s bottom, slide the longer end of the pipe cleaner foot through, and secure with tape.
  5. Hanging Out: Attach your crafted bat upside down to the stick by wrapping the middle section of the bat’s feet around the stick. Secure well. Finally, place your stick inside the vase, letting your bat dangle and dance.

Tips for Bat-tastic Success:

  • Precision Punching: When making holes for the feet, ensure they’re placed evenly so your bat hangs straight.
  • Secure Well: Use a generous amount of double-sided tape or glue for the wings and ears to ensure they stay in place.
  • Vase Variation: You can fill your vase with black marbles, candy corn, or even orange and black ribbons to add more festive charm.

Skills Gleaned from This Craft:

  • Creativity and Imagination: From designing the bat’s face to picking out the perfect stick, the creative choices are endless.
  • Motor Skills: Cutting, gluing, and assembling are all excellent ways to hone those fine motor skills.
  • Recycling Awareness: This craft emphasizes the fun and importance of upcycling everyday items.

Alright, crafty pals, you’re all set to build your bat brigade! Enjoy the process, make memories, and before you know it, you’ll have a fluttering fleet of bats ready to celebrate Halloween with you. Happy crafting!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.

The Best Sensory Play Kits for Kids

Our Sensory Play Kits are some fun and easy ways to keep your child engaged while at the same time using sensory play to nurture their mind!
