If you’re looking for a Father’s Day craft that’s sweet, simple, and full of heart (and hands!), this “I Love You This Much” Handprint Card is about to become your go-to. It’s one of those classic, feel-good projects that’s big on love, easy to prep, and just the right amount of homemade.
Whether you’re making it with toddlers, preschoolers, or big kids who love to get crafty, this card delivers all the awws and smiles. It’s the perfect mix of keepsake and DIY, and it’s one of those gifts that dads actually keep forever—because those little hands won’t be that little for long.
Why You’ll Love This Father’s Day Handprint Craft
- It’s super easy. Like, five supplies easy.
- It doubles as a keepsake. Because one day, that hand will be a lot bigger.
- It’s big on meaning. The message says it all: “I love you this much!”
- It’s totally personal. You can use any colors, any style, and add a personal message inside.
This project is ideal for home, classroom, daycare, or even a last-minute craft table at your local Father’s Day event.

Materials You’ll Need
- Construction paper (2-3 colors of your choice)
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue stick or white glue
- Marker or pen
Optional: stickers, washi tape, or glitter for decorating!
How to Make the “I Love You This Much” Handprint Card
- Trace the Hands: Grab a sheet of construction paper and help your child place one hand flat on the paper. Use a pencil to lightly trace around the hand. Repeat with the other hand. Cut out both handprints—these will be the sides of your card.
Pro tip: If your child wants to help with the cutting, let them practice on scrap paper first to build those fine motor skills!

- Create the Accordion Strip: Take another color of construction paper and cut a long strip (about 2 inches wide and at least 12 inches long—feel free to tape two pieces together if needed). Fold the strip accordion-style, back and forth, until it looks like a little paper spring. This folded strip will connect the two handprints and show how much your child loves their dad—this much!

- Glue It Together: Glue one end of the accordion strip to the back of one handprint and the other end to the back of the second handprint. When it opens up, it’ll stretch between the two hands—so cute!

- Add the Message: Use a marker to write “I LOVE YOU…” on one handprint and “…THIS MUCH!” on the other. You can also add “Happy Father’s Day” inside or let your child draw a picture or sign their name. This part is totally customizable—let your child get creative!

- Decorate (Optional but Fun!): Add stickers, doodles, or even a little glitter glue to personalize it even more. Some kids might want to draw rings, fingernails, or even a tiny tattoo on the handprint—go for it!
- Want to turn it into a pop-up card? Fold a sheet of cardstock in half and glue the finished handprint card to the inside so it pops out when opened!
Or try this idea with a classroom: use each student’s handprint and hang a “We Love You This Much!” display in the hallway with accordion strips between all their hands.
The “I Love You This Much” Handprint Card is one of those activities that checks all the boxes: sentimental, simple, sweet, and seriously fun to make. Whether you’re doing it with one child or a group, the results are always adorable and full of meaning.
And let’s be real—nothing beats a handmade card from your kiddo on Father’s Day.
