Snowman Sensory Bin

I love playing outside in the snow. But on those days where its just too cold or you are too exhausted to go outside and play in the snow, try bringing the snow inside instead! For this activity your little one can create their very own snowman jars! For preschoolers, you can have them create jars with the snowman face before the activity. Read on to learn how.

How to make Snowman Jars

When I set this up I was going to use my dry erase markers but unfortunately couldn’t find them! Super annoying, but that only means that I had to get creative. If you have dry erase markers, use them to create your snowman face on your jars.

If you don’t have dry erase markers try this instead: take some clear packing tape and place a piece on the face of the jar. Fold in one edge so that it is easy to remove. Remember where is it because it will be hard to see. Take your black and orange sharpie and make a snowman face directly on the packing tape.

This will ensure that it won’t come off as your little one is playing and it also won’t damage your jar. Note: I used plastic jars and not glass jar. You may want to test the packing tape on your glass jars before securing it to ensure that it won’t leave a residue.

Finally, take some yarn and wrap it around the jar for the scarf of the snowman.

Setting Up the Snowman Sensory Bin

Take your child and go outside to collect some snow. Fill up your sensory bin and bring it back inside. Add your snowman jars, spoons or a shovel and invite your little one fill the jars to create snowmen!

How they Played with the Snowman Sensory Bag

This was a huge hit! They filled the jars and the dumped them and were amazed but the cylinder shapes they created. This led to so much free play with the jars and conversations with the snowmen. My kids of course loved it when I made the voices of the snowman! Such as great scoop and pour fine motor sensory bin and a great one for indoor play in the winter!

Age Suitability

This activity is great for kids 2 years and up. My kids are 3.5, 3.5, and 7.5 year old.
