Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To make frozen flower bombs, you’ll need a few essential items. Start by collecting an assortment of fresh or faded flowers. I love to use flower that I had on display that have faded and are ready to be tossed. You’ll also need reusable water balloons or regular balloons, water, and a freezer-safe container or tray. Optionally, you can add food coloring or flower petals to enhance the visual appeal of your frozen flowers.

Step 2: Prep and Fill the Balloons

If you’re using reusable water balloons, make sure they are clean and dry. Next, carefully place a flower or a few petals inside each balloon. Make sure the flower is fully enclosed within the balloon . If desired, you can add a few drops of food coloring or sprinkle some flower petals to create additional visual interest.

Step 3: Freeze and Unveil the Frozen Flowers

Once you’ve filled the balloons with flowers, carefully fill them with water until they are full but not overly stretched. Tie a knot at the end of each balloon to secure the water inside. For reusable water balloons, make sure they are closed properly before placing into the freezer. Place the filled balloons in a freezer-safe container or tray and carefully transfer them to the freezer. Allow the balloons to freeze completely, which usually takes a few hours or overnight.

Once the frozen flower bombs are fully set, remove the balloons from the freezer. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to loosen the balloons’ grip. Gently peel away the balloon from the frozen flower, revealing the magnificent icy masterpiece.

Step 4: Release the Frozen Flower Bombs

Place the frozen flower bombs on a tray or in a sensory bin. Hand you child a squeeze bottle or spray bottle filled with warm water. Or they can use an eye dropper and a bowl filed with warm water to release the flowers from the ice. Another way to melt the frozen flower bombs is to use salt.

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
