Paint Splat Pumpkin Craft for Kids

This easy paper plate craft is perfect for Halloween. Make a Paint Splat Pumpkin Craft with you toddler or preschooler this Fall! This easy painting technique is a lot of fun for kids and a great opportunity to introduce the concept of symmetry to even the youngest artist.

Make an orange pumpkin but don’t stop there! Make a purple, green, yellow or grey pumpkin too! You can even turn this craft into a colour mixing activity. Add red and yellow paint to one side of the paper plate and mix them together to find out what colour they! A great way to teach kids that when you mix primary colors like red and yellow it makes a secondary color, orange.

How to Make Paint Splat Pumpkin Craft

Take your paper plate and fold it in half and light crease the center.
Open it up again and put some orange paint all over one side of the paper plate.

Fold the plate in half again and invite your little one to use their fingers to move the paint inside the paint all over. Place something on the table just in case some of the paint oozes out of the paper plate.
Open the plate up and check out the cool symmetrical shape that they made. You can talk about symmetry here with you child (no matter their age) and show them that the shape is the same on both sides of the fold.

Cut out a face for the pumpkin, including eyes, mouth and even a nose (which I forgot!)
Cut out a stem and glue it to the top of the pumpkin.
