Check out this quick and creative way to show dad just how awesome he is on Father’s Day. This Paper Plate World’s Best Dad Craft is the perfect mix of easy setup, colorful fun, and a big dose of homemade love — everything you want in a Father’s Day surprise.

It’s basically a mini “award” that kids can proudly present to dad, complete with bright colors, sparkly stars, and their own personal touch. Bonus? It doubles as a cute keepsake that can hang on the fridge (or even the office wall!) to remind dad he’s #1.

Why You’ll Love This Craft

  • Super simple to make. It’s one of those crafts you can whip up with supplies you already have at home.
  • Great for all ages. From toddlers to bigger kids, everyone can get in on the fun — no perfection required!
  • A chance for kids to personalize. The foam letters and stars let kids add their own flair and really make it their own.
  • Perfect for a “big reveal.” This award-style craft is fun to hand off to dad as a mini ceremony!

Materials You’ll Need

  • Paper plate (the star of the show!)
  • Gold, red, and blue paint
  • Paint brush
  • Red, blue, and yellow streamers (or tissue paper strips)
  • Foam letters (or letter stickers)
  • Glue
  • Foam stars (or star stickers)

How to Make a Paper Plate World’s Greatest Dad Craft

  1. Paint the Paper Plate: Start by painting the front of the paper plate with gold and yellow paint to create a bright, shiny base — it’s the “medal” part of your craft! Let it dry completely before moving on (or speed things up with a hairdryer if you’re feeling fancy).
  1. Add “World’s Greatest Dad”: Grab your foam letters (or stickers) and spell out “World’s Best Daddy” on the front of the plate.
You can place the words in a straight line across the middle, curve them around the plate’s edge, or arrange them in any design you like!
  1. Add Some Sparkle with Foam Stars: Now it’s time to add a little extra pizzazz! Glue foam stars all around the plate to make it extra special and show dad that he’s truly a star in your family.
  1. Create the Award Ribbons: Cut red, blue, and yellow streamers (or tissue paper strips) to about 6-8 inches long.
Glue them to the back of the plate, letting them dangle down like the ribbons on a real award medal. Cut a triangle at the end of each streamer to create an award ribbon appearance.

Let It Dry and Celebrate!

Give everything a few minutes to dry. Once it’s all set, your mini award is ready to present! Hand it to dad with a big hug and watch his face light up — because there’s nothing better than a handmade masterpiece from his favorite little people.

Tips and Tricks for Success

  • Keep it mess-friendly. Lay down some newspaper or an old tablecloth before you start — this is a paint-heavy project!
  • Swap out materials. If you don’t have foam letters, you can write out “World’s Greatest Dad” with markers or crayons.
  • Make it even bigger! Tape an extra long ribbon to the back of the plate so dad can wear his “medal” for the day.

This Paper Plate World’s Greatest Dad Craft is one of those projects that checks all the boxes: easy, meaningful, and full of love.
It’s the perfect way for kids to show dad just how much he means to them — and a sweet keepsake he’ll want to keep forever.

So grab those paints, round up your craft supplies, and get ready to make something that says: “Dad, you’re the best!”

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 aired in August 2023! My show was also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Curious Crafting Season 1 is also now airing in Australia on ABC! Watch it here!

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
