Crafting with Sponges

Crafting with sponges allows children to explore their artistic side while experimenting with different textures and techniques. From sponge painting to stamping, these crafts offer endless opportunities for your little ones to express their creativity. Cut sponges into various shapes, such as stars, hearts, or animals, and dip them into vibrant paint to create colorful masterpieces. They can also use sponges as stamps to add unique patterns and designs to their artwork. With sponge crafts, children can develop fine motor skills, learn about colors and shapes, and gain a sense of accomplishment as they create their own imaginative creations.

Sponges are not just for crafts; they can also be a fantastic tool for sensory play and educational activities. Turn a regular sponge into a DIY sponge ball for a fun and interactive game of catch or create a sponge sensory bin filled with water, bubbles, and colorful objects for a tactile experience. You can even use sponges to explore science concepts such as absorption and water displacement. Cut sponges into different sizes and shapes, and watch as your child conducts experiments, observes how water is absorbed and released, and discovers the fascinating properties of this absorbent material. These activities promote sensory development, scientific exploration, and open-ended play, providing a wonderful opportunity for learning through hands-on experiences.

In this blog post, we’ll dive into a collection of sponge crafts and activities that will inspire your child’s creativity, engage their senses, and encourage their curiosity. So grab some sponges, unleash your child’s imagination, and get ready for a sponge-tastic adventure filled with fun and learning!

TV Show: Curious Crafting

I’m so excited to share my crafting TV show Curious Crafting which launched in July 2022 on TVOkids and TVOkids YouTube! Season 2 airs in the summer of 2023! We were also nominated in 2023 for Best Live Action Preschool Series by the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence.

Set in the ultimate crafting space, Curious Crafting is a short form pre-school age series about the joy of making crafts. I lead a rotating cast of adorable little preschoolers (including my own) making magic out of common household objects.

In each episode we transform recycled items into magical crafts like a milk carton school bus, paper bag puppet or cotton pad turtle. The crafters learn and laugh their way through each activity while demonstrating what their young imaginations can create.

Curious Crafting shares the adventure and joy of making art with takeaway lessons for creating crafts at home.

This show designed for toddlers and preschoolers 2.5 years old and up.
